Celebrate Phenomenal Growth in Female Physicians
The growth in the number of female physicians in the United States has been staggering:
- The total number rose by 447 percent between 1980 and 2010.
- Since 1975, there has been a six-fold increase.
- Nearly half of medical students in 2011-2012 were women, compared to 31 percent in 1982-1983.
These are just three reasons why the AMA celebrates Women in Medicine Month every September. There are many ways to mark this special month, which this year features the theme "Promoting Leadership and Equality: Celebrating Gains in Gender Equity."
Join the celebration by participating in the AMA's Pinterest page, a pinboarding-style social photo-sharing website that allows users to create and manage theme-based image collections.
