AMWA Announces a Call for an Executive Director and Acting Director
Dear AMWA Members,
The Board of Directors and the Executive Committee of AMWA are pleased to announce a new AMWA leadership position: Executive Director. A search committee has been convened and is actively working to identify a qualified, dedicated, and energetic AMWA member for this position.
In addition to Executive Director, we are searching for an Acting Director for a 3-month term beginning September 1, 2012.
The qualifications of the Executive Director are outlined in the accompanying description of the position. This will be a 0.25 FTE position and will include a stipend. We anticipate an annual review for contract renewal. Any questions you have may be directed to Laurel Waters at lwatersmd@yahoo.com.
We invite applications for both Acting Director and Executive Director to the AMWA Executive Director Search Committee, Dr. Laurel Waters, Chair. We anticipate selecting an applicant for the Executive Director position to begin December 1, 2012. Applicants for the position of Acting Director are also invited to express interest in the position of Executive Director.
Applications materials include a letter of intent (LOI), describing why the applicant is interested in the position and an up to date CV. The qualifications for the position are outlined in the accompanying position description. The LOI should clearly articulate the qualifications, strengths and skills the applicant would bring to this vital AMWA position. Prior positions or roles of relevance to this position should be noted on the applicant’s CV. Applicants interested in the position of Executive Director should indicate this in the LOI.
Applications for the position of Acting Director are due August 10, 2012. Applications for Executive Director are due September 15 2012.
We look forward to receiving your application!
Sincerely,
AMWA Executive Committee and Board of Directors
Responsibilities of American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA) Executive Director
Background (“Who We Are”)
For nearly a century, the American Medical Women's Association (AMWA) has been committed to the advancement of women in medicine. Although the number of women choosing careers in medicine has grown substantially, there has not been a commensurate increase in the percentage of women in senior leadership positions.
Recent research confirms that women physicians are paid significantly less than men at all levels. To redress this situation, AMWA has carried out ambitious advocacy efforts including research, constituency building, mentoring, leadership development, and policy reform to enable environmental and institutional transformation for nearly 100 years. AMWA has also generally advocated adherence to Feminist Principles throughout its history.
The basic principle of feminism is that it is a movement created to work towards social, political, monetary and artistic equality between men and women.
