The First Medical Women’s International Association Meeting, 1919
Did you know that as a member of AMWA you are automatically a member of an international network of women physicians called the Medical Women’s International Association (MWIA)?
The MWIA is an international non-governmental organziation (NGO) representing women doctors from all five continents. The association was founded in 1919 as an extension of AMWA’s success on the national level. Once AMWA demonstrated the power of a collective group of women physicians acting nationally they decided to expand internationally.  Overseas war work provided opportunities for professional advancement.  The first medical women’s international association meeting was held in 1919 and is seen in the photo above.  Medical women continue to meet and network on an international level.
