AMWA President, Dr. Gayatri Devi, Comments To ABCNews.com On The Gender Pay Gap

June 13, 2012

AMWA President, Dr. Gayatri Devi, comments to ABCNews.com on the gender pay gap.  A new study found male physicians make $12,000 more per year than female doctors when adjusting for differences in specialties, work hours and academic rank.  The article,  “Male Doctors Make $12,000 More Anually than Female Ones,” cites a study, “Gender Differences in the Salaries of Physician Reseachers,” published by the The Journal of the American Medical Association.

AMWA President, Dr. Gayatri Devi, indicates that with the increasing numbers of female physicians in the workforce there is still a significant amount of advocacy work that needs to be done.  This includes taking additional factors into consideration.

Dr. Devi said,

“This means not just propelling women into higher ranks and leadership positions, but also putting our money where our mouth is, paying women their worth.”
