Medical Director of a California State Department

After completing her medical degree at University of California/Davis, Dr. Laurel Waters went on to UCSF for Pediatrics, including Research, then Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at MVAMC/UC Davis. She worked in private practice primarily in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her path led to Children's Hospital Oakland where her interest in Pediatric Pathology grew. She was a Pediatric Pathology Fellow in Brooklyn, NY at SUNY Downstate and became one of about 300 Board Certified Pediatric Pathologists.

Dr. Waters started a consulting practice called PerinatalPath. She consulted on a series of placentas from a community hospital. She assisted parents in understanding poor perinatal outcomes. She gave a number of Grand Rounds at hospitals. She works as a medicolegal consultant and expert witness for defense and plaintiff attorneys and performs do locum and part-time work in Pathology throughout California, in Washington and New Zealand. She is currently the medical director of the Califoria State Employment Development Department working primarily in the disability insurance branch.
