After completing her surgical oncology training at Memorial Sloane Kettering Cancer Center in 2002, Dr. Tousimis joined the academic faculty at Cornell University, New York Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. She is a board certified General Surgeon who specializes in Breast Cancer Surgery and women's health issues. She has been specialty trained in minimally invasive treatments of breast cancer. In addition to a busy clinical practice, she publishes extensively on the surgical management of breast cancer, serves on the leadership council of the Metropolitan Breast Cancer Society of New York City, as well as the International Women's Health Coalition, and the medical advisory board of Women's Voices for Change. She is a section editor of the Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Journal. She is currently the Chief of Breast Service, Department of Suregery, Georgetown University Hospotal in Washingtin, DC.

As an academic surgeon, she is passionate about education amongst medical students and residents. After receiving the teaching award at Cornell Medical College, she was asked to become the Associate Program Director of Surgical Education. This position taught her the importance of mentorship at all levels from student to attending. Being a female surgeon in a male dominated field has exposed the issues that face all women in medicine.
